Aspiring actress jumps off Lokhandwala building in alleged suicide attempt, dies
A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of her apartment building in Mumbai’s Andheri area during the wee hours of Friday. She was identified as Pearl Punjabi.
According to preliminary reports, the 25-year-old had been trying to get in the film line for a long time without any success.
Punjabi, a resident of Kenwood Apartment in Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri, ended her life a little after midnight.
“It happened between 12:15 and 12:30 am. There was some noise, I thought somebody was shouting on the road. We went there to check what was happening. When I came back, I heard sounds from the third floor where she lived,” the building’s watchman was quoted as saying.
After police were alerted about the incident, a team arrived on the spot and rushed her to Kokilaben Hospital – where she was pronounced dead.
Punjabi was mentally disturbed and had frequent fights with her mother, police said. She had tried to commit suicide twice earlier but was saved in time.
Oshiwara police have filed an accidental death report and launched an investigation in the case.
Since no suicide note was found, officials have started questioning friends, family, and other residents to ascertain what led her to take the extreme step.
