In a shocking incident, BJP Corporator Shatrughan Kakade and his supporters were caught on camera thrashing a restaurant owner from Navi Mumbai after he allegedly denied them ‘protection money’.

Kakade, a corporator from Panvel, allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from Imtiaz Shaikh, who had recently opened ‘Hotel Shahi Bawarchi’ restaurant in Sector 4 of Kharghar.

After Shaikh refused to pay, Kakade got into an argument with him over parking space outside the restaurant on Friday night.

The altercation took a turn for the worse when Kakade, along with at least 15 of his supporters, barged into the restaurant and assaulted Shaikh in front of the staffers.

When one of the staffer tried to alert the cops, he was also beaten up. The men also vandalised the restaurant before leaving.

Shaikh, who was admitted to MGM hospital in Kamothe following the beating, was left with a fractured nose and several bruises.

The police booked the corporator and his men for extortion after Shaikh filed a complaint.

However, no arrest has been made till now as Kharghar police are still trying to locate Kakade. Further details are awaited.

The incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed inside the restaurant premises.
