A massive fire broke out at a godown in Mumbai’s Lower Parel area on Monday morning.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 9 am in a godown believed to be owned by Nerolac Paints and located on Ganpatrao Kadam Marg near Shree Ram Mills in Lower Parel.

The fire department was alerted about the mishap, following which at least 12 fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze.

The fire was quickly escalated to Level II and firefighting is still underway. A team of local police and an ambulance are also on the spot.

The cause of the fire, meanwhile, is not yet known.

No casualties have been reported as of publishing this report. Further details awaited.

The incident comes days after an explosion and fire at the Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) plant in Chembur. The fire left at least 45 people injured and damaged several residential buildings in the vicinity.

Update:

(11 am): The fire has been brought under control and cooling operations are underway.
