Fuel prices hiked for 5th consecutive day: Petrol touches 76.77, diesel at 68.81 in Mumbai
The upward trend in the price of fuel in Mumbai, New Delhi, and other major cities continued for the fifth straight day on Monday.
According to a notification by the oil marketing companies, fuel prices rose marginally in Mumbai today with petrol getting costlier by 19 paise per litre and diesel by 28 paise per litre.
With the hike, the effective rates stood at Rs 76.77 for petrol and Rs 68.81 for diesel.
Meanwhile, in the national capital, petrol witnessed a significant rise of 1.02 rupees per litre while diesel became costlier by 26 paise per litre. Petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 71.14 per litre while diesel rate touched Rs 65.71 per litre.
The rise in prices comes amidst the revision of global crude oil prices owing to a possible stifling of supply in the near future.
Since a major portion of India’s fuel demands is met via imports, the price of petrol and diesel is heavily dependant on the international prices of benchmark fuel and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate.
