GST officer commits suicide by jumping from 30th floor of World Trade Centre in Cuffe Parade
A 51-year-old GST superintendent allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 30th floor of World Trade Centre building in Cuffe Parade on Monday.
The incident took place around 6:30 pm, when the deceased, identified as Harinder Kapadia, jumped from the World Trade Centre building.
A group of locals immediately gathered at the spot and rushed Kapadia to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
According to officials, illness drove Kapadia to take the extreme step.
“Kapadia was fed-up with his illness. Around 8 to 10 months ago he had stopped coming to work because of a brain stroke. After that, he had gone through brain surgery at Kokilaben hospital,” an official told Mid-Day.
“Three months ago, he resumed work, but he had memory dementia. Initial investigation revealed that he was fed up with his illness and hence took the drastic step,” he added.
The police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and launched a probe in the matter. The statement of all people present on duty at the time of the incident has also been recorded.
