Navi Mumbai-resident arrested with 28.5 kg cannabis
The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Thane Police’s Crime Branch on Monday arrested one person and seized over 28 kg of cannabis from his possession.
Acting on a tip-off, an ANC team of Thane police laid a trap at Shil Phata area in the neighbouring Thane district and apprehended the man when he arrived near a hotel on a scooter, said ANC senior inspector Kishore Khairnar.
The man was identified as Amol Hirve, a resident of Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. A total of 28.5 kg of the banned substance, worth an estimated Rs 9 lakh, was seized from his possession.
The accused was subsequently booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Shil Daighar police station.
A probe to ascertain the source of the drug is currently underway.
