Oil spill, traffic at Ghodbunder road after container overturns near Patlipada bridge
Traffic movement on the busy Ghodbunder Road in Thane was affected during peak hours on Thursday morning due to an oil spill caused by an overturned container.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place between 7:30 and 8:30 am today when the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle near Patlipada bridge opposite Preston Building on Ghodbunder Road, Thane West.
The container (MH-04-EB-4844) toppled following the mishap and relieved large quantities of oil on the road. It was travelling from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to Silvassa.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jeetlal Pal (35), sustained minor injuries int he mishap and was subsequently admitted to a nearby hospital. The vehicle is owned by Piyush Bhanushali.
As of publishing this report, officials from the police department, regional disaster management cell (RDMC) and fire brigade have reached the the spot with an emergency tender, a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) and a water tanker.
While traffic officials are trying to manage the traffic, fire brigade personnel are working on clearing the oil spill.

Since the oil is spread out near the start of the Patlipada bridge and the road adjacent to it, the movement of traffic on the road has been affected.
Police are probing to ascertain if the mishap took place due to the driver’s fault, following which a case may be registered.
