Roof of Chembur’s Chhagan Mitha petrol pump collapses, 2 injured
At least two persons were injured after the roof of Chhagan Mitha petrol pump in Mumbai’s Chembur area collapsed on Thursday afternoon.
The Hindustan Petroleum (HP) petrol pump is located on Sion-Trombay Road near Swastik Chambers in Sindhi Society, Chembur (East).
According to eye-witnesses, some digging work was underway at the pump premises when a large portion of its roof collapsed around 12:30 pm today.
Two bikers who had come for filling fuel were reportedly trapped under the debris. They were removed by locals and rushed to nearby Sion Hospital for treatment.
Although two fuel dispensing machines were completely damaged in the mishap, a major tragedy was averted as none of them leaked any fuel on the ground.
Following the mishap, a team from Mumbai Fire Brigade and local police arrived on the spot. While fire department officials tried to assess the damage, cops temporarily cordoned off the intersection between Sion-Trombay Road and SG Barve Marg.
Apart from the section that collapsed, the other half has also developed cracks and is hanging precariously. The pump has been temporarily shut by authorities.
As of publishing this report, it is not known if the ongoing work triggered the collapse. Further details about the incident are awaited.
