RTI activist planned Sena corporator’s murder, arrested
RTI activist Anil Waghmare was arrested on Firday in connection with the murder of former Sena corporator Ashok Sawant. The accused, who also runs a civil services examination guidance centre in Kandivali, is the alleged mastermind of the crime.
Waghmare is the fourth accused, including a minor, to be arrested in the case. According to Vinay Rathod, DCP (Zone-XII), the activist had a personal enmity with Sawant which prompted him to plan his murder.
Waghmare had requested for allotment of a classroom of a local BMC school to run his classes, but his plea was turned down allegedly due to Sawant’s influence. The Sena leader also put an end to his ‘sources of earning’.
Angered over Sawant’s behaviour towards him, Waghmare hatched a conspiracy with other accused persons to kill the politician-cum-businessman. He kept eye on Sawant’s movements and committed the crime last week when the victim was returning home.
