Sena-NCP clash in Navi Mumbai: Two Shiv Sena corporators among 19 arrested
Shiv Sena corporators Manohar Madhvi and his son Karan were among the 19 people who were arrested for rioting and vandalising NCP MLA Sandeep Naik’s car in Navi Mumbai last week.
According to officials, a scuffle that broke out between Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party workers last Friday over the inauguration of a wedding hall built by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in Madhvi’s civic ward in Airoli.
Workers from Sena and NCP clashed after the NMMC mayor, who belongs to the NCP, proceeded with the inauguration ceremony in the absence of local Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP Rajan Vichare.
The move angered Sena workers and prompted Madhvi to allegedly threaten MLA Naik, son of former Maharashtra minister Ganesh Naik. Meanwhile, some workers damaged his SUV with iron rods and a pair of scissors.
Representatives of both parties filed cross-complaints against the other at Rabale police, following which officials arrested 12 Sena functionaries, including Madhvi and his son Karan – both of whom are corporators. Seven NCP workers were also arrested.
All of them were booked for assault and rioting by unlawful assembly. They were produced in court on Tuesday and subsequently granted bail.
