Unknown caller warns of bomb on Jaipur-Mumbai IndiGo flight, turns out to be hoax
An IndiGo flight travelling from Jaipur to Mumbai received a bomb threat early morning on Tuesday while the plane was mid-air. The threat later turned out to be a hoax.
According to reports, an unidentified person called the IndiGo’s call centre around 5:30 am this morning and warned of a bomb threat to the Jaipur-Mumbai 6E 218 flight.
The flight, which departs around 5:05 am from Jaipur and lands in Mumbai around 7 am, was already mid-air when the call was received.
The airline subsequently took the prescribed action to avert the possibility of a mishap.
“We immediately reported the matter to Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) and followed all laid down security protocols,” IndiGo said in a statement.
The bomb threat was analysed and was classified as a “specific bomb threat”, IndiGo added.
However, the call was found to be a hoax after a thorough probe by investigation agencies. “Following the clearance by the authorities, operations will be resumed as normal,” IndiGo said.
Police are in the process of booking the unidentified caller as of publishing this report.
