Versova’s Sirocco Cafe vandalised by Swabhimaan Sangathan workers for serving hookah
Workers of Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimaan Sangathan vandalised Sirocco Poolside Cafe & Bistro in Versova during the wee hours for illegally serving hookah. The action comes in the backdrop of Kamala Mills fire, which started at a pub that also served hookah.
Around 25-30 flag-bearing workers entered the eatery, located off Yari Road near D Mart in Versova, Andheri (W), around midnight and started shouting slogans demanding its closure. They overthrew tables & chairs, broke crockery, and damaged furniture.
Although no staffer or patron was injured, a few were heckled. The workers finally fled the scene after hotel authorities notified the police. Later, the cafe’s owner Kaushal Shah approached Versova police and filed a complaint against Rane and his aides.
While speaking to reporters, Shah also questioned the fringe group’s actions and whether Rane was ‘above the law’. Meanwhile, the mayor has already called for a complete ban on hookah joints until a proper regulation is in place.
