A portion of the jetty at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva was damaged on Saturday after a container ship accidentally rammed into it.

The ship, belonging to CMA CGM group, was dropping anchor at the port in the afternoon when it hit a portion of the jetty while making a turn, said Chetan Kakde, senior inspector of Nhava Sheva police station.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap.

According to reports, the incident was caused due a failure in the ship’s onboard computer system. As a result, the vessel hit the jetty instead of turning and coming alongside it.

The damage to the vessel and the jetty, reportedly owned by the Port of Singapore, was not major. Also, both jetty and ship were insured.
