Several areas in the western suburbs, stretching from Andheri to Kandivali, could potentially face up to an 8-hour power cut during the wee hours of Sunday as Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) undertakes metro work in Charkop.

According to officials, MMRDA is scheduled to install a monopole tower in Charkop in connection with the Metro 2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) construction from late Saturday night.

The work will begin around 11 pm on Saturday and is expected to complete by 7 am on Sunday. While the installation is underway, the 110 KV circuits of Tata Power at Borivli and Malad will be switched off.

The development authority has said that people would not be affected by the work as both TATA and Adani Power are making necessary arrangements to ensure there is no disruption in power supply.

However, in an extreme case, supply to areas like Andheri, Goregaon, Malad, and Kandivali may be affected while the electrical installation is in progress.

The new 110 KV monopole tower is coming up in lieu of the existing tower at locations 41 and 42 in Charkop.
