Work on new Versova creek bridge to start soon, complete in 18 months
Work on the new 4-lane Versova creek bridge is expected to complete by 2019, bringing respite to the thousands of motorists and transporters that travel via Ghodbunder along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway everyday.
The stone laying ceremony for the bridge was undertaken yesterday in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari. The project work will commence following CRZ and other clearances.
According to NHAI, the Rs 250 crore project should be ready by 2019. The CM also assured that the state intended to complete the project in 18 months. A new bridge was proposed after one side of the existing bridge developed cracks and had to be shut last year.
Since then, traffic officials have been allowing north and south-bound traffic to cross the bridge after 10-minute intervals via the only available lane, leading to major traffic woes.
