On Monday, two youngsters were killed after being electrocuted while they were carrying a Ganesh idol from neighbouring Mumbai to Ulhasnagar in Thane district.
The boys were a part of a group of devotees that was taking the idol to Dussehra Maidan at Manish Nagar, Township no.3 in Ulhasnagar yesterday evening for installation ahead of the Ganesh festival, an official from Police Control Room told PTI.
The devotees, a part of Ulhasnagar’s Jai Mata Di mandal, were on their way to the maidan when a part of the trolley on which the idol was placed came in contact with a high tension wire, electrocuting the two boys.
The deceased were identified as Hitesh Kumar Talreja (17) and Haresh Lal (20). Another devotee, identified as Sunil (44), was also electrocuted. He is currently admitted and recuperating at Mira Hospital.
A case of accidental death has been registered with Central police station.
Meanwhile, locals have blamed Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) for negligence and demanded action against the concerned officials.
