24 fast locals to halt at Diva station on CR from Dec 18
In a good news for commuters, a total of 24 fast local services will halt at Diva station on the Central line from Sunday, December 18.
The inauguration will take place at the hands of Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who will be in the city to launch a host of facilities that will benefit Mumbai suburban railway commuters.
Central Railway’s decision to run fast services on the route was taken after last year’s riots at Diva station, when hundreds of commuters had staged protests to complain against the frequent disruption in service.
The riots, where commuters resorted to smashing windowpanes, stone pelting and looting booking counters, has been one of the most violent in Railway’s history.
After the incident, CR authorities had assured commuters of halting fast locals at Diva in a bid to provide more options and ease congestion on the slow line.
While the initial plan was to run the fast services from Diwali, the work got delayed by a few weeks resulting in a delay.
From tomorrow, December 18, a total of 24 fast local services (up & down) will halt at Diva station, six of which will be during peak hours.
The timetable of the locals can be found here.
Apart from inaugurating the fast locals at Diva, Suresh Prabhu will also:
# Induct twelve 15-coach services on the Western line in place of the 12-coach services.
# Launch free Wi-Fi at Andheri, Kurla, CST, Thane, Vashi, Belapur, Byculla, Panvel and Borivali stations.
# Inaugurate a new platform at Dadar on Western line.
# Inaugurate escalators at Dadar, Bhayandar and Vasai among others.
# Introduce new train between Bandra and Gorakhpur.
