3 men arrested for barbarically thrashing, stripping and tonsuring two minors in Ulhasnagar
Ulhasnagar police have arrested a shop owner and his two sons for allegedly thrashing, stripping and tonsuring two minors who had stolen food from their shop on Saturday.
The children, aged 8 and 9, had visited the neighbourhood shop in Prem Nagar area of Ulhasnagar and picked up a packet of ‘chakli’ (snack) from a glass jar. Then, without paying for it or taking the owner’s permission, they ate the snack.
This angered the shop owner, Mehmood Pathan (69), who along with his two sons Irfan (25) and Salim (22) decided to teach them a lesson.
They caught hold of the duo and chopped off their hair, stripped them naked and made them wear garlands of slippers. The minors were then paraded on the street as punishment.
The sons also recorded the public humiliation on camera and later circulated it on WhatsApp. The video has gone viral.
The traumatized minors went home in a state of shock. But, after one of them narrated details about the barbaric treatment at the hands of the Khan family, his mother lodged a police complaint with Hill Line police.
On the basis of the complaint, police arrested the trio around midnight. Shockingly, even locals and bystanders chose to record the ordeal on their phones instead of coming to the kid’s rescue, said Mohan Waghmare, Senior Inspector of Hill Line police station.
The family has confessed their crime and have been remanded to police custody till May 23.
The trio have been under sections 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person), 500 (defamation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
