5 die in a major accident near Milan Subway at Vile Parle
In a tragic incident, five people lost their lives after the Honda City they were travelling in crashed into a tree on the service road at Vile Parle. The incident took place near Milan Subway on the Western Express Highway around 5 am on Thursday morning.
The driver of the speeding City (MH-12-CR-2815) allegedly lost control and rammed into the tree. The car’s passengers included one woman and four men. Onlookers immediately alerted the police control room, who alerted Vile Parle police station. Officials arrived at the accident spot in minutes and rushed them all to the hospital.
Four passengers, Muzzamil Kamosiya (22), Rashida Shaikh (25) and two who are still unidentified, were declared dead before admitting to the hospital. The fifth passenger, Juniad Shaikh (22), succumbed to his head injuries a few hours later while he was receiving treatment. All 5 are believed to be residents of Mira Road.
According to initial reports, the tyre of the car made contact with the service road divider before the car skid and eventually hit the tree. Based on the damage to the car, it is estimated that the car was being driven at speeds upwards of at least 80 kmph.
An official from Vile Parle police station also said that it is possible that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the car to hit the divider and then crash into the tree.
A case of rash driving has been registered against the Muzzamil Kanosiya, who is one of the deceased. Cops have also collected blood samples of the deceased to ascertain if it was a case of drunk driving.
