5 men, 2 women arrested for robbing Rs 2 crore from trader’s home in Navi Mumbai

The Navi Mumbai police has arrested seven persons, including two women, for forcefully entering and robbing a trader’s house in Vashi of cash and jewellers worth over Rs 2 crore last month.
The incident took place on October 27 at the house of Arun Menkundale, a trader at the APMC market in Turbhe. Menkundale resided at Kusum Co-operative Housing Society in Sector 17, Vashi and often kept cash from his trading and money lending business at home.
The accused had barged into the house of a vegetable merchant around noon and robbed cash & jewellery worth nearly Rs 2.09 crore, while holding the traders wife and daughter at gun-point, Navi Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police Prashant Burde said.
The accused had used a Diwali gift as bait to enter the home and tied the mother and daughter with ropes before leaving the premises.
Subsequently, the Vashi police in Navi Mumbai registered offences under relevant IPC sections pertaining to dacoity, wrongful confinement, criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Arms Act and the Bombay Police Act.
Several teams of police personnel were formed to search for the culprits. The teams managed to identify some of the accused with the help of the CCTV camera footage and arrested everyone involved during the last week.
Those arrested have been identified as Anita Mhasane (39), Subhash Patil (36), Khushi Khan (27), Sunny Shinde (29), Shankar Telange (38), Jibrahil Gayashuddin Khan alias Munna (38) and Firoz Shaikh (27), the police said.
So far, around Rs 80 lakh has been recovered from the accused.
