Air India pilot arrested for allegedly molesting air-hostess onboard Ahmedabad-Mumbai flight
An Air India pilot has been arrested for allegedly molesting an air hostess of the national carrier mid-air during the Ahmedabad-Mumbai flight on May 4.
According to officials, the pilot allegedly passed lewd comments against the female colleague during the course of the flight on Friday, post which a scuffle broke out between the two.
The complainant subsequently visited Sahar police station along with senior AI staff, but did not file an official complaint. She visited the police station again on Saturday and lodged a case against the pilot.
“Based on her complaint, we have registered a case against the pilot under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC”, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.
The accused was arrested the same day.
Air India, meanwhile, refused to comment on the matter on the grounds that it was under investigation. The carrier, however, stated that it would extend its full cooperation to authorities.
“Since the matter is under investigation, we cannot make any comment. We will extend all co-operation to facilitate the process of investigation,” Air India said.
In a similar incident, a female flight attendant had accused another Air India pilot of sexual harassment in November last year, following which Kerala police registered a case against the pilot.
