While authorities mull over preventive steps, cops continue to remain on the receiving end of unwarranted attacks, with three more cases registered against offenders on Saturday alone. The cases were registered at Shivaji Park, Bhiwandi and Trombay.

Case 1

Three youths, who had come for Ganpati immersion at Dadar Chowpatty, were allegedly misbehaving when female sub-inspector, Yogini Patil, pulled them up. The youths also misbehaved with the female cop, which subsequently led to their arrest.

The youths, identified as Santosh Godar, Vinod Pharsi and Gajanand Pakade, were arrested by Shivaji Park police. Cops later said that all three were drunk at the time of the incident.

Case 2

Police constable Rohit More, attached to Trombay police station, was on patrolling duty when he noticed a brawl between two taxi drivers at Panjarpol in Chembur. When he tried to intervene and stop the situation from escalating, he was manhandled by one of the drivers.

A case was registered against the accused driver and he was arrested.

Case 3

A local youth from Bhiwandi assaulted police constable Dilawar Vasave when he tried to intervene between a fight between two groups at Jai Ambe Mitra Mandal pandal.

The youth, identified as Avinash Patil, was booked for assaulting the cop.

Past Cases:

August 23: A Mumbai traffic policeman, Vilas Shinde, 51, was brutally attacked by two youths on when he stopped one of them for driving without wearing helmet. He died on August 31. The accused are behind bars.

September 1: A speeding biker in Kurla rammed his vehicle into a policeman, Devidas Nimbalkar, when he attempted to stop him during a checking drive. A non-cognizable offence has been registered against the biker.

September 3: A drunk driver rammed his car into traffic constable Narsingh Mahapure in Thane when he was stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver was apprehended by locals and handed over to the police.

September 6: A shocking incident of an attempt to kill a policeman, Nitin Dagle, by drowning came to light during the first phase of Ganpati immersions in Kalyan. The youths were later arrested.

September 6: Priyanka Khot, a female traffic constable, was allegedly slapped by a motorist who was stopped for riding without a helmet in Vile Parle. She accused called her brother, who also got into an argument with cops. Both were arrested.
