Cabbie suffers heart attack while driving, injures 4 pedestrians in Mahim
Four pedestrians were injured in Mahim on Wednesday evening after an elderly taxi driver suffered a heart attack while driving and inadvertently hit them with his vehicle.
The driver, identified as Rajapati Dubey, later died during treatment at the hospital.
According to officials, the mishap occurred around 6:30 pm near Paradise Cinema in Mahim yesterday when the 57-year-old was on his way to Bandra after filling fuel in the taxi. He was not ferrying any passengers at the time.
“While driving the taxi, he suffered a massive heart attack due to which, he lost control of the vehicle and it hit at least four pedestrians on the road,” an official told PTI.
All the injured were taken to either Bhabha and Hinduja hospital for treatment. Two injured were identified as Rajendra Kumar (40) and Pratibha Waghmare (43). The other two sustained minor injuries and were discharged immediately.
The driver was also rushed to Bhabha hospital, where he died during treatment.
Meanwhile, a case of accident has been registered at Mahim Police Station and probe is underway. The exact cause of Dubey’s death will be ascertained after post-mortem report.
Cops have also started examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the accident spot to ascertain if the driver was in any visible pain before the accident.
