After a cold Tuesday, Mumbai sees a colder Wednesday as temperature drops to 12.5 degrees
After witnessing the lowest temperature of the year on Tuesday, Mumbaikars braced themselves for yet another cold morning as temperatures dipped to 12.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning.
The temperature, which was around 4 degrees Celsius below average, was recorded at the Santacruz observatory.
On Tuesday, the same observatory had recorded the lowest temperature of the current season, when the minimum temperature had dropped to 13.6 degrees Celsius.
Wednesday’s temperature, on the other hand, was the lowest in the last three years.
The lowest recorded temperature for the month of January in the last decade was on January 29, 2012 at 10 degrees Celsius whereas the all time low for the start of the year was recorded on January 22, 1962 when temperatures dipped to 7.4 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had, on Tuesday, attributed the drop in temperature to the northern winds passing over the city and drop in moisture levels.
The weather department has said that similar conditions are expected to prevail for the remaining week.
