Container topples, signboard crashes on private car in late night mishap on EEH, Thane
One person was severely injured in a mishap involving a container trailer, a signboard and a private car on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) in Thane during the wee hours of Wednesday.
The incident took place around 1:30 am when the driver of the container (MH-04-JK-0290) lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a directive signboard near the flyover opposite Viviana Mall, next to Jupiter Hospital in Thane West.
The container toppled due to the impact of the collision. Seconds later, the signboard also came crashing down and fell on a Maruti Swift Dzire (MH-06-AW-1842).
Authorities were quickly alerted about the incident, following which officials from the police department, regional disaster management cell (RDMC) and fire brigade reached the spot with an emergency tender, rescue vehicle, ambulance, Quick Response Vehicle (QRV), water tanker and a hydraulic crane.
While the owner of the car, Bhanushali Bhopi, escaped unhurt, the driver of the container was stuck inside the debris and sustained severe injuries.
He was rescued by officials and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, due to the severity of the injuries, he was transferred to Thane Civil Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment. He has been identified as Rajesh Yadav (26).
Although authorities did their best to direct the traffic and clear the road, the closure of two lanes affected the flow of traffic on the route.
A few hours later, another mishap involving a rental car and a truck on the Thane Belapur Road, opposite Mindspace, led to some congestion on the Thane-bound road.
