Female passenger caught with 2.8 kg cocaine worth Rs 3.7 crore at Mumbai Airport
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials on Monday intercepted a female passenger in possession of 2.8 kg of cocaine at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
According to preliminary information, the vigilant sleuths of NCB Mumbai apprehended the passenger after she landed in the city from Lome, the capital of Togo, in West Africa.
The accused, identified as Khiangte Lalthlamuani, is an Indian national and had arrived in the country via an Ethiopian airlines flight. She had wrapped the banned substance in capsule sized pieces and concealed them in her handbag.
NCB officials managed to recover a total of 2.856 kg of cocaine from Khiangte, valued at approximately Rs 3.7 crore.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and NCB has initiated further investigation into the matter to ascertain if the accused was acting alone or part of a bigger racket.
Just last week, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers had intercepted a passenger holding South African passport with almost 5 kgs of methaqualone at Mumbai Airport. The passenger, Vanessa De Kock, was travelling to Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airways flight.
