The Education Department released the general/provisional merit list for first-year junior college (FYJC) 2018 aspirants on its admission portal around 5:30 pm on Friday.

UPDATE: FYJC 2018 – First merit list out, here’s how to check

The list ranks all FYJC applicants on the basis of their scores and includes details like the applicant’s name, marks, caste, stream, location among others.

Since the list will form the basis of the next four merit lists, students are expected to go through it and ensure that all details are in order.

In case of corrections, applicants can submit them to the Deputy Director of Education in the prescribed format between June 30 and July 2. Once the corrections are in place, the department will declare the first merit list on July 5.

Those who wish to confirm their admission to the college allotted in the first list will be able to do so by paying the fees on or before 5 pm on July 9. FYJC aspirants had to specify up to 10 preferred colleges while filling the admission form.

Around 2.3 lakh students have applied for seats in colleges across Science, Commerce, and Arts streams this year.

Like previous years, the maximum number of students – roughly 1.4 lakh – have applied under the Commerce stream. Science and Arts, meanwhile, received around 67,000 and 19,000 applications respectively. Less than 1,500 applied for the HSC vocational stream.

The cut-off percentages are expected to be slightly higher than last year as more students scored top marks in Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate for Secondary Examination (ICSE).

Bifocal Admissions:

The department declared the second merit list for bifocal courses on Thursday, in which 5,057 students were allotted seats. In the first round, 7,406 out of 14,338 students were allotted seats.

Students had time till 5 pm today to confirm admission under the second list.

Further, those who were not allotted seats or canceled their admission will now be assigned colleges directly in the first merit list. The colleges will be allocated on the basis of the preferences mentioned in their admission form.

Additionally, the department has also allowed colleges to shift students to bifocal courses if seats are pending after all four merit lists are out.
