Ghatkopar Minor Kidnapping: Abducted 12-year-old rescued in 4 hours, kidnapper arrested
Mumbai police on Monday claimed to have solved the kidnapping case of a 12-year-old girl, who was abducted from Ghatkopar while she was on her way to coaching class on Sunday morning.
The kidnapper, police say, was keeping an eye on the minor and therefore aware about her timings. He abducted her from BEST Colony in Ghatkopar early morning yesterday.
According to officials, the accused called the minor’s father immediately after kidnapping her and demanded Rs 2 lakh in ransom.
Following which, the father wasted no time in alerting Pant Nagar Police Station about his daughter’s kidnapping.
The police, with the help of technical information and intelligence, managed to nab the accused from a nakabandi in Vikhroli in a matter of hours.
Police have claimed that the kidnapper was caught merely four hours of the incident being reported.
The accused was identified as Prabhu Santosh Khedekar, a history-sheeter with six prior cases registered against him, including three cases of theft and assault registered at Vikhroli and Powai police stations.
A resident of Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli, Prabhu has also been accused of stealing temple idols from Ratnagiri in the past.
For kidnapping the minor, he was booked under sections 364 (A), 385 and 170 of the Indian Penal Code read with section 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, section 23 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and section 37 of Miscellaneous Provisions Act.
The operation was monitored by Senior Inspector Prafull Phadke of Pant Nagar Police Station under the guidance of DCP (Zone 7) Sachin Patil and ACP Bhimdeo Rathod.
After being rescued, the minor was send for a medical check up and later reunited with her parents.
