Government applies brakes on private transport vehicles plying on city roads
In a bid to keep check on over-speeding transport vehicles zooming on city roads and highways, the government has directed that all private transport vehicles in the State should be fitted with a speed limiting device.
Speaking to media, additional transport commissioner S B Sahastrabuddhe said that any transport vehicle not having speed limiting device installed by July 31 will not get fitness certificate by the RTO.
The state government had issued a Government Resolution (GR) on 15 April, 2015 under Central Government’s Motors Vehicles Act 1988, which also says that for all private transport vehicles manufactured on and after October 1, 2015, the speed limiting device should be fitted by the vehicle manufacturing company.
The maximum speed permitted for transport vehicles is 80 kmph. However, it’s not mandatory for BEST buses and the state transport buses to install the device.
