Kohinoor gets his ‘royal’ wish fulfilled, gets to meet Will and Kate at Taj
The 93-year-old owner of city’s iconic Iranian café Britannia and Co realised his ‘royal’ wish of meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton during their maiden visit to the city.
Boman Kohinoor who claims to be the oldest and biggest fan of the British royal family, got to meet the royal couple after his video with the hashtag #WillandKateMeetMe went viral. To his surprise, Kohinoor received an impromptu invitation from the royal couple to visit them at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and have a chat with them about his restaurant and liking towards the royal family.
Speaking to the media, he said, “They were very kind and asked me about my restaurant and my favourite dishes there. I told them: give my love to the Queen, and to (your) children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, too. I wish I had more time to speak, but I’m thankful for this opportunity.”
Kohinoor’s fondness for the British royals is clearly evident to anyone who steps into Britannia and Co given the walls of the place are adorned with the Union Jack and portraits of the British royal family.
In 2010, he wrote to Queen Elizabeth II asking her to visit. She wrote back to thank him, on letterhead stamped with the Windsor crest. His prized memorabilia also includes a photo of the Queen.
