Lady Shiv Sena leader arrested for running a sex racket in Kalyan
On Saturday, the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) arrested a 40-year-old woman Shiv Sena leader for allegedly running a sex racket in Kalyan.
The Shiv Sena leader, identified as Shobha Galmadu, was reportedly running a prostitution racket in Kalyan and neighboring areas since the last 2 years. Galmadu, along with her manager Vinod Yadav, was arrested from Durga Palace lodge, situated near Birla College in Kalyan.
According to police officers, Galmadu would drag underprivileged girls into prostitution. She would demand Rs 5,000 from customers and pay the girls anywhere between Rs 200 to Rs 500. Over the last 2 years, she had expanded her business in Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Badlapur areas.
While arresting Galmadu from Ulhasnagar, cops recovered Rs 4,000 initially and later seized Rs 59,000 from her residence.
While speaking about the case, an official from the AHTC said, “We received a tip about Galmadu’s illegal business activities a few days ago. On Saturday, we were told that she had visited Durga Palace lodge with a client. We laid a trap early in the morning and arrested her while she was in possession of cash that she had received from her client. She was distributing money to girls and hotel workers at the time.”
The Kalyan police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
After Galmadu’s arrest, Sena city president Rajendra Chaudhari of Ulhasnagar issued a statement claiming that she had been removed from the party a year ago after they found out about her activities. He also said that local police had been informed about her. But, contrary to his statement, Galmadu had put up congratulatory banners on the occasion of Chaudhari’s birthday on June 1.
