The parched Marathwada region on Wednesday received sporadic showers of about 5-10 mm.
But contrary to what one might expect, the showers did not bring any respite to the region’s farmers. Instead, it left them with a minor scare.
The local weather bureau reported that the region received only 5 to 10 mm of water with hailstorm. The officials from the Divisional Office termed the rains as ‘insignificant’ and also added that it would only harm the crops in the parched parts of Latur, Beed and Nanded.
Thankfully, the region did not have many standing crops at the time of the showers. Had the crops been standing, the farmers would have suffered damages due to the untimely rains.
Officials believe that the Marathwada region, which has been reeling under drought for the third consecutive year, will receive better rains this monsoon.
