Model arrested for running a prostitution racket from Versova
Versova police, on Sunday, arrested a 24-year-old model for allegedly running a prostitution racket in the western suburbs of Mumbai.
After receiving a tip off, police conducted a raid on her premises in New MHADA colony in Lokhandwala Circle and rescued two struggling models. There is a possibility that the girls were underage, but cops haven’t confirmed it till now.
Cops believe that the model was running the prostitution racket under the guise of a production house named ‘VR Entertainment’ .
Versova police have booked the model, identified as Rekha Vaishnav, under section 373 (buying minors for purposes of prostitution) of IPC and under provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). The accused has acted in a few B-grade films.
According to a police official, the model’s modus operandi involved contacting struggling models who wanted a break in Bollywood. She would lure them in with photoshoots and sent their images to prospective clients via WhatsApp. After the customer agreed to the deal, she would earn a commission from the transaction.
Cops also recovered a diary from the accused which contains pictures of over 100 struggling models. Further investigation to find the other women involved and the customers is currently underway.
