Mumbai police save 75-year-old woman from drowning in Mithi river near Dahisar
Police inspector Kandalgavkar of MHB police station and his team rescued the 75-year-old today morning
Mumbai police managed to successfully rescue a 75-year-old woman who was on the verge of drowning in the Mithi River on Tuesday morning.
The rescued woman, Mahananda Butale, is a ragpicker and a resident of IC Colony in Borivali.
According to preliminary information, the police control room received a call about a woman having fallen in the Mithi river just after 8 am today.
After receiving the details, police inspector Kandalgavkar of MHB police station rushed to Santoshi Mata road in Dahisar West along with a small rescue team comprising of two sub-inspectors and two constables.
By the time officials reached the spot, a crowd had gathered. However, no one had tried to rescue the septuagenarian.
On seeing Butale struggling, Kandalgavkar and other officials wasted no time in entering the river and pulling her out. She was carried outside on a stretcher and subsequently rushed to Karuna Hospital for a check-up.
Butale is in a stable condition now and her family has been notified about her whereabouts. She had been missing since last night.
After being rescued, she told cops that she had fallen off the wall running alongside the river.
