Railway police constable commits suicide on Churchgate-bound local, shot self with rifle
On early Sunday morning, a Railway Police constable committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in the ladies compartment of a Churchgate-bound local train.
The incident occurred around 5:30 am on Sunday, when the deceased, identified as Amar Mahadev Gaikwad, shot himself in the chest. At the time, the train was between Malad and Goregaon railway stations.
After commuters came across his body, they immediately alerted the police control room.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepak Devraj, Gaikwad was found in a pool of blood in the second class compartment. After officials boarded the train and found him, he was rushed to GT hospital. But the constable was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
Gaikwad was on patrolling duty in the Borivali-Churchgate local train when he ended his life. Police are currently probing into what led Gaikwad to take such a drastic step.
The deceased was attached with Mumbai Central Railway police station.
In another recent incident, a Delhi police constable had committed suicide by jumping onto the tracks of the Delhi Metro at Patel Chowk metro station on Thursday.
