Senior Bajaj executive, wife killed in accident on Mumbai-Pune expressway
In a tragic incident, a couple lost their lives in a mishap on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Sunday afternoon. The couple’s kids, who were in the backseat, were also seriously injured.
Amrutkumar Rath was returning to Pune from Mumbai with his family on Sunday, when he lost control of his BMW near Malawali, roughly 60 km before Pune. The 45-year-old was a senior executive with Bajaj Auto.
According to a police official, it was raining at the time of the incident and the roads were wet, which might have caused Amrutkumar to lose control of the vehicle. Following which, the car rammed into the median on the road.
Both Amrutkumar and his wife Padmaja lost their lives immediately after the accident. Their kids, Adisha (18) and Alman (10), suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Lokmanya hospital in Nigdi.
Adisha suffered a hip dislocation and underwent surgery, while Alman sustained abdominal injuries. Alman was critical when he was brought to the hospital, but is currently out of danger.
Amrutkumar had travelled to Mumbai to drop his sister. The incident occurred while he was returning back home to Wakad, Pune.
Amrutkumar and Padmaja’s bodies were sent for post-mortem at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital.
