Teen commits suicide after teacher refuses to delete private pictures, arrested
Police arrested a 22-year-old professor for abetting the suicide of a Ghatkopar teen after her father found evidence proving his involvement and shared it with authorities.
Based on a call recording shared by the girl’s father, Ghatkopar police arrested the computer professor. The accused, identified as Shambhu Madishaya, is a resident of Wagle Estate in Thane.
The 17-year-old girl, Naina (name changed), ended her life by hanging herself at her residence on July 30. At the time, Ghatkopar police did not suspect any foul play and registered an accidental death case.
The family, who was still struggling to cope up with the teen’s death, proceeded with the last rites without knowing what led Naina to take such a drastic step.
However, on August 1, Naina’s aggrieved father stumbled upon an audio recording while he was going through her daughter’s phone. In the audio clip, Naina was pleading Madishaya to delete some compromising pictures that he had taken. But, the professor refused claiming that he would ensure that no one sees them.
The father immediately shared the clip with the cops, who arrested Madishaya on August 2 from his coaching centre in Ghatkopar West. Investigation revealed that the girl had joined his classes six months back and the two had started dating around three months back. The recorded conversation took place on June 16.
Madishaya has been booked under section 305 (abetment of suicide of child or insane person) of the Indian Penal Code.
