Thane resident beaten to death by son, arrested
A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his father to death with a metal rod on Wednesday in Kalwa, Thane District.
The victim, Arun Aljhende (55) would often pick up fights and beat his wife Urmila (43) over petty issues. Over a period of time, their son, Vishnu, had gotten sick of the frequent battles and resented his father for coming home drunk and beating her mother.
An officer from Kalwa police station also stated that Arun would doubt his wife’s character in front of Vishnu, which did not go down well with him. Vishnu also suspected that his uncle Datta and grandmother Pamabai were instigating his father.
Reportedly, Arun had also insulted Urmila in front of their neighbours and son-in-law. The couple resided at Shanti Nagar Slum, Boudh Mandir in Kalwa.
On Wednesday, Vishnu reached his tipping point when he saw his father brutally thrashing his mother. He took a metal rod kept from the vicinity and attacked his father with it. When his uncle and grandmother tried to intervene, he assaulted them as well.
Following the incident, Vishnu approached Kalwa Police station and surrendered. He is has been booked under sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code and currently in police custody.
