An agent with the Thane Regional Transport Office (RTO) has been arrested for allegedly taking bribe from a car buyer for getting his new vehicle registered.
Apart from the agent, two others, a sales team leader and sales manager of the car showroom, have also been booked in connection with the matter.
In a press release issued earlier today, Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Kanhaiya Thorat said Satnamsingh Balwantsingh Kalsi (38) had demanded Rs 13,000 for registration of the new vehicle purchased by the complainant.
The aggrieved complainant, a Naval officer, lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of the ACB which laid a trap and arrested the agent while he was accepting part of the bribe money of Rs 9,000 from the complainant last evening, the release said.
The investigation and the complaint indicated involvement of the car showroom’s sales team leader, who has been detained, along with the sales manager, who is currently away. Further action will be taken against the manager once he returns.
The accused have been booked by the local police under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
