Video: Major fire at furniture market in Oshiwara, multiple cylinder blasts heard
A major fire broke out in Oshiwara near Jogeshwari in Mumbai on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place around 1 pm at the furniture market located on Relief Road near Behram Baug in Oshiwara. At least two cylinder explosions were heard, following which the blaze quickly escalated.
Ten fire engines and ten water tankers are currently on the spot trying to douse the fire.
According to preliminary information, the fire was caused due to the cylinder blast. However, a confirmation from the fire department is awaited.
The market houses dozens of furniture shops, that have been in business since decades.
As of 2 pm, no casualties have been reported. However, at least one shop has been completely gutted in the fire.
The smoke from the blaze is now visible from areas located within a 5 km vicinity.

Update from Mumbai Police: No casualty reported till this time in Oshiwara fire. Fire tenders are on job and more called. Police officers and policeman on spot. Goregaon to Oshiwara traffic diverted to SV road. Traffic towards A-1 Darbar hotel is stopped. We have evacuated the whole area successfully. Fire fighting is on.
Update (3:30 pm): Students of HMW English High School in Jogeshwari, which is located right next to the market, have been evacuated.
Update (4 pm): At least 25 people have sustained minor injuries in the incident, said a Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services official. 5 ambulances are currently on spot providing first aid.
