Vile Parle college professor booked for molesting student during exam
Vile Parle police arrested a professor from a reputed college for for allegedly molesting a 18-year-old junior college student in the examination hall on Monday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mahendra Bhandare. The 45-year-old is a an assistant professor with a college in Vile Parle (East).
According to a police official, the victim is a commerce student from a college in the western suburbs who was allotted the Vile Parle college as exam centre for the ongoing HSC supplementary examinations. During the exam, the professor moved close to her and touched her inappropriately under the pretence of checking the barcode on the hall ticket and signing the answer-sheet.
“She had ignored it the first time. But when he did it again a few minutes later, she left the exam midway and exited the college. She came to us (Vile Parle police station) directly and filed a complaint against the professor,” he added.
Based on the complaint, Bhandare was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code. He was arrested on Tuesday and produced before the court on Wednesday.
While police are conducting an inquiry to ascertain if Bhandare had done the same to any other student, the college authorities have also been informed. They have also initiated an internal investigation into the matter.
