Virar engineering student murder: Boyfriend made secret pact with killer, arrested
A day after Virar police arrested a 28-year-old for brutally killing an engineering student after she resisted his sexual advances, cops have taken the deceased’s boyfriend into custody in the wake of more shocking information that has now come to light.
The police now believe that the boyfriend allegedly had a pact with his friend wherein he granted him permission to get physical with his girlfriend in exchange for a waiver on a loan.
The deceased, Aishwarya Rajkumar Agarwal (19), was a second year engineering student and would often meet her boyfriend Sohail Shaikh at his friend Deepak Wagri’s flat at Om Shiv Co-operative Housing society in Virar (West).
On Friday, Aishwarya arrived at Wagri’s house at 2 pm to meet Shaikh like they had decided. In Shaikh’s absence, Wagri tried to force himself on the victim. When she resisted, he murdered her by slashing her with an axe multiple times. Later, when Shaikh arrived, he raised an alarm which helped nab the culprit.
When police took Wagri into custody, Shaikh was also called for questioning. At the time, Wagri confessed to making sexual advances and killing the victim. Shaikh, on his part, maintained that he was not aware of his friend’s intentions and was in love with Aishwarya. However, Aishwarya’s father Rajkumar alleged Shaikh’s involvement in the crime.
During investigation, Virar police found out that Wagri had loaned Rs 80,000 to Shaikh. Unable to pay the loan, Shaikh offered his girlfriend in exchange for a waiver.
Wagri was booked for rape and murder earlier and has been remanded to police custody till September 9. Shaikh has now been booked for abetment and will be produced in court today.
