Within six months, dozens of electric buses will ply on Mumbai roads
For the first time ever, Mumbaikars will witness electric buses plying on city roads. The BEST announced that it will roll out 25-30 electric buses in coming months, and the BMC has sanctioned Rs 10 crore to aid the initiative.
The BEST plans to convert some of its existing CNG and Diesel buses into electric ones and will spend around Rs 30 to Rs 35 lakh on the conversion. To ensure that the buses cover at least 160 kms on every charge, BEST will use Lithium batteries with high-speed charging.
It’s not just the BEST but MMRDA too that’s planning to go eco-friendly. The agency has procured 25 hybrid electric buses that will ply between Sion and Bandra via BKC in six months’ time.
