5 dead, 7 injured in major accident near Poladpur on Mumbai-Goa highway
In a tragic incident, at least five people were killed and another seven injured in a major accident involving a truck and a rickshaw on the Mumbai-Goa highway on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place around noon on the stretch of highway running across Parle village in Poladpur tehsil of Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the speeding truck lost control of the vehicle and ended up hitting the rickshaw, following which both vehicles fell down in the ditch running adjacent to the highway.
A major brunt of the head-on collision was borne by the rickshaw and its passengers, who were crushed under the truck. As a result, bystanders and local police had to lift the debris before removing them.
As of publishing this report, at least five people have reportedly been killed, while another seven were grievously injured.
Four of the five deceased passengers were identified as Muzaffar Yelukar, Nimal Kamble, Namibai Jadhav and Soham Jadhav, while the identity of the remaining passenger is yet to be ascertained, reported Dainik Bhaskar.
The injured passengers were identified as Dashrath Sutar, Devang Chadke, Anita Pawar, Indu Tadekar, Geeta Chadke, Rudra Chavan and Santosh Kodekar. All injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, local police are yet to confirm if the truck driver has been apprehended.
