FIR against singers Ankit Tiwari, Akruti Kakkar and Shilpa Rao over cheating allegations
The Mumbai Police on Sunday registered an FIR against Bollywood singers Ankit Tiwari, Akruti Kakkar and Shilpa Rao in connection with a Rs 30 lakh alleged cheating case filed by an event company.
According to reports, U.S based event firm ‘Deep VIP Travels’ had paid Rs 30 lakh to Tiwari’s company, Brotherhood Entertainment, for performing at a show last year.
However, all three singers failed to perform and return the money. Following which, the company approached Andheri magistrate court for resolution.
On the basis of their complaint, the court directed Oshiwara police to file an FIR against the singers and Ankur Tiwari, Ankit’s younger brother and a partner in his firm.
All four have been booked under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code. If found guilty, they can face imprisonment of up to three years or fine or both. They have also been summoned by Oshiwara police for questioning.
In the meantime, Tiwari brothers and Rao have responded to various media outlets to refute the allegations against them, while Kakkar is yet to respond.
