A private vehicle caught fire and burnt to a crisp on the Western Express Highway on Thursday afternoon, affecting the flow of traffic on the busy route.

The incident took place around 2 pm today afternoon, when a white-colored Maruti Suzuki Ritz got engulfed in flames right at the beginning of the northbound lane of Andheri flyover heading towards Jogeshwari.

According to preliminary information, the driver of the vehicle managed to get out of the car in time. While it is speculated that the fire originated from the CNG tank, the exact cause is still unknown.

One fire tender was rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control around 3 pm. By the time flames were doused, the car had been completely gutted by fire.

Traffic officials also arrived at the spot immediately after the incident and started managing the flow of traffic.

Motorists travelling towards Goregaon, Borivali faced an average delay of 10-15 minutes. Mumbai Traffic Police also tweeted about the incident, urging motorists to travel via the S.V Road or Link Road instead of the WEH.
