Reliance Infrastructure-led Mumbai Metro One on Thursday launchd India’s first mobile ticketing product ‘Skiiip Q’ in partnership with PayTm.

The pioneering new digital technology will make a paradigm shift in the way commuters travel and they would be no longer be required to stand in queues for any kind of tickets, top up or store value passes at ticketing counters and customer care centres.

‘Skiiip Q’ will allow commuters to book tickets at their own convenience from anywhere and instead of using token or smart cards, they can travel using QR code generated by the mobile app on automated fare collection gates of Mumbai Metro One.

“The facility is available on the PayTm app and the app of the technology partner Ridlr and will soon be introduced even in the Mumbai Metro app. AmazonPay will be the payment wallet for Ridlr,” a Mumbai Metro One spokesperson said.

“Our long-term mission is to make mobile payments extremely simple for our customers. This will transform the whole travel experience and Mumbai Metro commuters will find it of great convenience,” said PayTm COO Kiran Vasireddy.

Ridlr founder Brijraj Vaghani said the solution is setting global benchmarks in mobile ticking for all users of Mumbai Metro One.

Tokens and smartcards, however, will continue to be available at ticketing windows with the added option of ‘Skiiip Q’ on the 11.40 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route, the city’s first and the world’s eighth most crowded metro corridor.
