Police on Thursday arrested at least eight members of Nitesh Rane’s Swabhimaan Sangathan for trespassing and vandalising Sirocco Poolside Cafe & Bistro in Versova. More arrests are likely.

The cafe’s owner, Kaushal Shah, had approached Versova police late last night after dozens of activists forcefully entered the premises, heckled staffers, and damaged property.

Following his complaint, police booked the workers under sections 452, 120B, 427, 506(2), 143, 147 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code. The Sangathan members allegedly wreaked havoc at the eatery as it was illegally serving hookah to its patrons.

Incidentally, Rane and his party workers have had several run-ins with the law in the past. Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
