FJYC 2018 Round 1 admission deadline extended till July 10: Education Minister

FJYC 2018: Round 1 admission deadline extended till July 10
The first round FYJC 2018 admission deadline was extended to July 10

Amid torrential rains lashing several parts of Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra, the School Education and Sports Department on Monday extended the deadline for first round of First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions up to 6 pm on Tuesday, July 10.

The earlier deadline for confirming admissions under the first round was 5 pm, July 9.

The deadline was extended as several staffers and students failed to make it to the colleges today. The day’s extension, officials said, was to ensure students don’t take unnecessary risks while travelling to the allotted colleges.

The extension, however, will not have any impact on the rest of the schedule. “The extension will not have any impact on the rest of the admission schedule,” said Deputy School Education secretary Suvarna Kharat.

Meanwhile, several schools in Mumbai remained shut due to heavy rainfall today. While some schools took the decision early morning itself, an official announcement about declaring a holiday was made before noon.

“Precautionary holiday declared for schools, colleges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the safety of the students due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the city and the suburban areas. Heavy rains forecasted, everyone is advised to stay safe,” State Education Minister Vinod Tawde said.

Impact of extension:

In the first merit list, declared on July 5, applicants were allocated colleges on the basis of their preference and ‘best of five’ scores.

The list was the first of four that will be declared for FYJC admissions this year and includes students who were not allotted seats in bifocal courses.

Students who managed to make the cut for the college listed as their ‘first choice’ in the first merit list had to compulsorily confirm admission to the said college, or risk getting eliminated from the process altogether.

As per the earlier schedule, students who were allotted their preferred college in the first round had to confirm admissions by paying the fees by July 9.

A day later, on July 10, the department was expected to announce the vacancy list and first merit list cut-off percentages of all colleges, which would form the basis on which applicable students could apply for the next round.

Since the list is dependant on the completion of the first round admissions, there is a possibility that the declaration of the vacancy and cut-off list getting delayed either by a few hours or a day. It was scheduled to be released at 11 am on July 10.

Next Important Dates:

July 10-11 (till 5 pm) – Filling admission form for the second round.

July 13 (4 pm) – Declaration of second merit list.
