Area surrounding Khar railway station revamped and beautified
Five years after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had approved the work for beautification of Khar railway station area, the job is finally nearing completion.
The revamp project, which had been stuck for the first three years due to various reasons, received a final nod from the civic body a few months back. After toiling for months, the project is nearing completion and expected to be fully ready in a week from now.
BMC had initiated the project with the intention of easing congestion along the station approach road. The narrow road is frequented by thousands of passengers and used by buses and autos as well.
The beautification project includes widening of the approach road, repairing of pavements around the station, creating a seating area, revamping the kabootar khana, building a parking lot for 2-wheelers and a bus stand. The theme for the beautification is ‘Mi Khar’, implying ‘My Khar’.
Per the plan, the road has been widened and new seating arrangements have been made. The re-routing of the buses to ease congestion is at its final stages and expected to complete in a week.
The last leg of the work involves modeling a new kabootar khana, which is still a work-in-progress.
